Renowned Wineries of Burgenland
DEDICATION TO TOP-QUALITY WINEGROWING

We have enjoyed a great friendship for many years with the Renowned Wineries of Burgenland, an association of 13 top winemakers from Burgenland, eastern Austria, that are dedicated to a quality-driven approach to winemaking. The individual characters of the wineries involved and their products are every bit as diverse as their local nature. The wineries unite intact tradition with valuable innovation.

Rust

Wine estate Feiler-Artinger

Viticulture has been the métier of the Feiler-Artinger family since 1936. Today, 29 hectares are cultivated biodynamically and in the best vineyards in the Ruster Rieden, the rolling hills of Austria’s easternmost province. These wines are characterised by their intense fruit and freshness, but also by their body and colour, as well as a particularly high degree of finesse. According to the Rust tradition, the wines range from dry white and red wines to elegant nobly sweet grape varieties, with the “Ruster Ausbruch” being the ne plus ultra. Kurt Feiler has been president of the Renowned Wineries Burgenland since 2017.

Wine estate Gesellmann

Alongside the remarkable white wines that Engelbert Gesellmann vinifies together with his son Albert on their estate in Deutschkreutz, the name Gesellmann represents top-notch red wines. The flagship among the Gesellmann wines is “G” 1997, picked from the oldest vines combining small-berried Blaufränkisch grapes and St. Laurent grapes, and aged for 40 months in new barrique casks. The grapes for this wine come from selected, small-grape vines.

Wine estate Giefing
Rust

Wine estate Giefing

The vineyard of Erich and Claudia Giefing in the heart of Rust covers around 15 hectares. With its distinct Pannonian climate – characterised by cold winters along with hot, dry summers and long, mild autumns – the region is ideal for viticulture. Nevertheless, the premium range can be produced solely in particularly beneficial years. The result is a unique and distinctive character far beyond average. The Giefings represent a vision, a philosophy and the flavours of their region.

Wine estate Hans Igler
Deutschkreutz

Wine estate Hans Igler

Besides the popular white Burgundy variety of Pinot Blanc, Waltraud, Clemens and Wolfgang Reisner-Igler mainly produce red wines. Most notably Blaufränkisch, the region’s speciality. A late, gentle harvest, low yields per hectare and careful production in a modern cellar with temperature-controlled fermentation are the prerequisites for the quality that has long made Igler’s wines a trademark of the region.

Consistency at a high standard – the principle of the Stiegelmar family was the foundation on which Georg Stiegelmar began to build the reputation of his winery at the end of the 1960s. Today, the winery incorporates 15 hectares of vineyards. About 80 % of the area in Gols is planted with red wine grapes currently; the main varieties are St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Blaufränkisch. 20 % are white wine grapes dominated by Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muskat Ottonel. Consistency is also expressed in the many awards. From the 1970s until today, wines from the Stiegelmar family have achieved the highest ratings domestically and overseas.
